Operated by French national rail operator, SNCF, iDBUS is a new long-distance coach service that connects key countries in Western Europe. It aims to become a leading provider of long-distance coach travel, providing a higher quality of service than that of rivals.
Buses operated by the company feature a range of mod-cons, and travelling by coach has a similar level of carbon emission to travelling by train.
The iDBUS fleet is modern and comfortable. There is one class of accommodation on-board iDBUS services. Overall, there are fewer seats than many traditional coach operators, allowing passengers more space and comfort.
Each seat is covered in fabric, with leather headrests, and is able to recline and expand laterally. Each seat has an adjustable reading table and lamp, as well as footrest and individual air conditioning. Each row of seats on-board has an electrical socket for charging portable devices, although it is a European socket, so passengers from the UK should bring an adapter with them.
When booking tickets, passengers are able to select their seats (available on most iDBUS routes).
Passengers are not permitted to consume alcohol on-board, or to use electronic devices without headphones. Animals are not permitted to travel (with the exception of guide dogs).
Luggage & Facilities
Passengers are permitted to travel with one item of hand luggage and one item of luggage to be stored in the coach's hold. A second item of hold luggage may be permitted, but is subject to an additional charge and availability. Hold luggage must not exceed 150cm in total measurement (length + width + depth), and should have a maximum weight of 24kg. All luggage must be labelled fully. Hand luggage is stored above or below passengers' seats.
WiFi / Internet
All iDBUSes are equiped with wireless internet, allowing passengers to surf for free throughout their journey.
Passengers may track the progress of their bus in realtime via the on-board television screens. These also provide timing details, such as time until next stop, as well as an overview of services available at iDBUS stops.
Passengers with reduced mobility can be fully accommodated on-board iDBUS services. A dedicated entrance is available, along with a lift for boarding. Wheelchair spaces are available on-board, and allow for relatively easy access. Guide dogs are permitted to travel with the visually impaired or blind.
Travelling with Children
Children under the age of 2 may travel for free on a fellow passengers' laps. If you are travelling with a small child, you are advised to bring a booster seat for their comfort. Passengers may travel alone on iDBUSes from the age of 16, although will need a valid ID card and permission to leave the country.
Toilet facilities are available on-board each coach.
